RECAP: YAH's DELI-CIOUS CMJ PARTY
RECAP
October 25, 2009

Local Natives. Photo: Ryan Muir / metromix.com
In case you weren't at our party on Saturday (lame) here's what went down. YAH, This Side Up, and The Deli Magazine took over the Delancey — all three levels — for 13 different bands and food from five different vendors. YAH stayed on the roof for the most part, monitoring (and munching) on the grub, while attendees checked out the music on all three floors. Here's a recap of the tunes and the bites. CONT'D

Peculiar Findings in Last Night's Top Chef
RECAP
October 8, 2009

-Kevin won $15,000 cash for the quickfire; Jen won a $10,000 GIFT CERTIFICATE to Macy's for the elimination challenge. Is it just me, or does that seem kinda sucky?
-I love how Bravo waits until the middle of the season, after we've already gotten to know the younger, hotter, cooler Brother, to drop the bomb that he has two kids including a nine-year-old daughter. Anything for a little shock factor, I guess.
-The Chefs divided into cooking teams where, for the most part, one person took the reigns and the other acted like a toddler passing ingredients to mom in the kitchen. Lamer Brother, Cooler Brother, Mike Isabella, and Ashley were in charge of both cooking a dish and ordering around their weaker partners. Ash, Eli, Robin, and the other chick should be kicked off for admitting, implicitly, that they are inferior, especially Ash who embarrassed himself silly by comparing himself to Picasso's paintbrushes. I was cringing.

Au Revoir Tin Tin
RECAP
September 17, 2009

Photo: BuddyTv.com
This week's episode of Top Chef was significantly worse than last for a handful of reasons: There was only one person sent home this time. We barely saw any cooking. Jennifer wasn't in the top four, and Mike Isabella won something. Ugh. The chefs had to use cactus for the high-stake quick fire challenge. (The winner won 15 grand but not immunity.) The slimy ingredient proved challenging for everyone, especially our usual winners. Surprisingly, Laurine, Mattine and Mike made guest judge Tim Love's favorite dishes. Mike took the cash with his raw cactus plate which he prepared "like cured salmon."

RECAP: BROOKLYN CHEESE EXPERIMENT
RECAP
September 13, 2009

The results are in. It's all over. We're not eating cheese for another week. In fact, we may steer clear of dairy products for a while. The event was lengthy, chaotic, exciting, pungent. It was filled with friendly people and their tasty creations, messy hands and not enough napkins. For YAH, the drama started before the competition did, when our chef was nowhere to be seen.
Cheftestants in the Brooklyn Cheese Experiment were instructed to come to the Bell House one hour before the event, at 12 pm. Like good friends, Seth and I arrived on time to help Chef Frankie, but the man was missing. By 12:30, chefs and their friends were standing loftily by their stations, colorfully decorated with posters, tablecloths and salt and pepper shakers. Without the food and our charismatic young chef, our table was a very cold wasteland. I snuck away to avoid being associated with it. It looked like this:

TOP CHEF SEASON 6: RECAP FRENCH EPISODE
RECAP
September 11, 2009

I know I've been MIA on the Top Chef front, and I apologize. But I'm back!
This week, the show did something that made me very happy: they sent someone home at the quick-fire challenge in addition to the elimination challenge. Sending two people home in one episode is almost like time travel. I'm two weeks closer to knowing who's going to win this season! I like time-traveling Top Chef speed, and I'm anxious to get to the real meat of season six, because, let's face it, we all know who's going to end up in the final four. The Brothers, Jennifer, and Kevin (whom Seth has affectionally dubbed "Tubby") are so obviously the best chefs in the running, it's almost pointless watching these early episodes. Except it's fun...

About Us
We are young (early 20's) and hungry (for knowledge! music! art! food!) friends living on (or in areas which border) Manhattan. We moved to the city seeking higher education, and an alternative to frat parties and gin buckets. We prefer a bottle of Chianti to a keg, lunches at City Bakery to a dining hall, Joe's to Starbucks, Frankie's Amatriciana to Batali's. Our uniting factor is our love for food. For detailed, personal information, keep reading.
