Interview with Ra Ra Riot
INTERVIEW
April 3, 2009

Ra Ra Riot, a six person band from Syracuse, is known for their vivacious live performances, Vampire Weekend comparisons, and instrumental prowess. Their debut album, The Rhumb Line, was released in August of 2008 to raving reviews. Having finished a European tour with Vampire Weekend and Los Campesinos in November, the band is currently touring North America with Death Cab for Cutie and Cold War Kids. But enough of the boring music stuff. Let's talk about food! Violinist and amateur chef for the band, Rebecca Zeller, answered some questions for us about the difficulties of making a unanimous dinner decision with a group of six, her favorite kind of Doritos, and Ra Ra Riot's very specific, gourmet rider...
With a six person band, is it hard to agree on a place to eat on the road? Who usually makes these decisions?

COFFEE AND QUESTIONS WITH JOE CAMPANALE
INTERVIEW
March 12, 2009

Last week I shared a monstrous oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookie with Joe Campanale, co-owner of Dell’Anima and L’Artusi restaurants in the West Village. For only 24 years old, Joe has an impressive resume. He graduated with a masters in food studies from NYU in 2008, worked as a sommelier at Babbo, and now runs two very popular Italian restaurants. The busy restaurant owner took the time to chat with YAH about how he got into the food biz.
What spurred your interest in food and wine studies?
I first got interested in food when my mom got in a car accident. I was like 13, 14. It was just the two of us so I had to start taking care of her in a few ways, and one of the ways was cooking.

Yoni Wolf of Why?
INTERVIEW
February 8, 2009

Jena sat down with Yoni Wolf, lead singer of Why?, to find out what drove him to give up bagels and lox, and what being vegan means for a touring musician...
What made you decide to be vegan? When?
I turned vegetarian when I was 17 on a bet. I turned vegan when I was 20 after a stint working on a farm in Andalusia. I met some preachy vegans there and then my friend paid me a visit fresh from the Israeli army, where he had turned vegan. Once I started to think about what I was eating and the processes that took place to get it to my plate, I could no longer mouth it.
What's on Why?s rider in terms of food and drink?

About Us
We are young (early 20's) and hungry (for knowledge! music! art! food!) friends living on (or in areas which border) Manhattan. We moved to the city seeking higher education, and an alternative to frat parties and gin buckets. We prefer a bottle of Chianti to a keg, lunches at City Bakery to a dining hall, Joe's to Starbucks, Frankie's Amatriciana to Batali's. Our uniting factor is our love for food. For detailed, personal information, keep reading.
