Interview with Vivo In Vivo's Creators
INTERVIEW
August 13, 2010

The Antlers at In Vino, photo from BrooklynVegan.com
Vivo In Vino is an "intimate wine salon" started by our good buddies over at In Vino (who you have probably seen at all of our parties) on the Lower East Side. The restaurant pairs some of NYC's most interesting musicians with inspiring wines for a night of listening, chatter, and... tasting. We sat down with the brains behind the series to talk about the artists, how this all came to be, and what kind of wine they'd pair with Lil' Weezy.
Tell us a little bit about Vivo in Vino. Where did the idea come from? How did it all begin?

Interview with Jessie Abraham of A La Tete
INTERVIEW
May 17, 2010

Seth has a talented cousin. Her name is Jessie Abraham, and she designs headbands and other pretty accessories. The Parsons grad launched À La Tête from her Williamsburg apartment during the headband boom — headbands had just reemerged as a trend for the first time since we were in grade school — and quickly turned her lovely designs into a bourgeoning business with trunk shows at Henri Bendel's, shelf space in notable boutiques and commissioned bespoke pieces. Now, she's got an exclusive line for Urban Outfitters — we're wondering, what's next? READ ON

Seth Gets Pine Mouth
INTERVIEW
April 26, 2010

This past Saturday I cooked roasted cauliflower with olive oil, garlic, lemon and pine nuts. I topped it with parmesan cheese. It tasted great. But then two days later Seth complained of a bitter, metallic taste in his mouth which he quickly blamed on whatever he was eating: " This pizza tastes like a water faucet." "Something old and dirty must have fallen in my ragu." It wasn't the pizza or the ragu, but a chemical reaction taking place in Seth's mouth from the pine nuts he consumed two days prior. Seth has Pine Mouth. Ever heard of it? We hadn't either. Apparently, Trader Joe's pine nuts (which Seth unfortunately ate) have been afflicting many innocent pignolia eaters. In order to inform future sufferers, Seth agreed to an interview (as long as we didn't make him eat anything sweet — it triggers the condition — in the process). Read on.

Interview: Mile End Deli's Noah Bernamoff
INTERVIEW
March 11, 2010

photo: Hannah Whitaker for New York Magazine
Rated best deli of 2010 by New York Magazine (and a bazillion other food sources), Mile End Delicatessen is run by Noah Bernamoff, a Canadian- Brooklyn transplant with a penchant for seriously seasoned meats. Our friends over at Jewcy.com interviewed Noah, who dropped out of law school to stuff smoked brisket into mushy onion rolls.
Interviewed By: Jason Diamond
You dropped out of law school to open Mile End? Is your mother worried?

The art of eating in: Interview with Cathy Erway
INTERVIEW
February 26, 2010

Here at The Young and Hungry, we are well versed in the ins and outs of eating in and out, so when food-blogger Cathy Erway decided to publish a book on just that, naturally we were intrigued. Erway’s blog, Not Eating Out in New York, followed her experiences, from dumpster foraging to cooking cows stomach (tripe), as she abstained from eating restaurant food. Two years later, ten pounds lighter, and with a slew of original recipes at her fingertips, Erway chronicles her adventures in her book: The Art of Eating In. She sits down to talk to YAH about failed yogurt experiments and which restaurant she still wants to try.
Sum up your motivation for eating in.

About Us
We are young (early 20's) and hungry (for knowledge! music! art! food!) friends living on (or in areas which border) Manhattan. We moved to the city seeking higher education, and an alternative to frat parties and gin buckets. We prefer a bottle of Chianti to a keg, lunches at City Bakery to a dining hall, Joe's to Starbucks, Frankie's Amatriciana to Batali's. Our uniting factor is our love for food. For detailed, personal information, keep reading.
