This past sunday, Seth and I rode our bikes to Park Slope for brunch at Applewood. (It's much easier for me to exercise when food is my incentive.) Nearly hidden on the ground floor of a brownstone, Applewood welcomes its guests with a sweet outdoor patio bordered with leafy trees and a few lucky tables. CONT'D

If Michael Pollan condoned fast food, Five Guy just might pass the test. The chain, which started in Virginia, is often compared to the West Coast favorite, In N Out, and for good reason. They both deliver soft burgers and salty fries in a paper bag, but with a healthier mission statement. There's no trans-fat and no frozen meat; they use only peanut oil and their fries are from Idaho potatos. It's high-brow fast food, and it works. CONT'D.

Park Slope residents' bragging rights usually revolve around a few predictable things: proximity to Prospect Park, the food co-op, beautiful brownstones, and the Italian restaurant, Al Di La. Our friends swear by this place: "The best Italian restaurant in the entire New York area!" or "The only restaurant my parents want to go to!" And of course, ever since we started YAH, we haven't heard the end of "Have you gone to Al Di La yet?" Finally, I will be able to answer, yes! Now please end the harassment...

Tally Hall + Wheat + Seth Kallen @ Union Hall, 12.12.09
LAST NIGHT'S SHOW
February 13, 2009
NEIGHBORHOOD: Park Slope
We forgot to mention, when not cooking, sometimes Seth and Frankie play in a band together. Last night they opened for Wheat and Tally Hall at Union Hall as part of BAM's Sounds Like Brooklyn Festival. Highlights of the night include Ross Federman (gray tie) singing Buddy Holly's "Everyday," an impromptu photo shoot in the bathroom (see below), and multiple people who know Seth strictly as a manager commenting, "Hey you actually sounded pretty good!" Check out Seth's music here... and Tally Hall's here. And Wheat's here.

About Us
We are young (early 20's) and hungry (for knowledge! music! art! food!) friends living on (or in areas which border) Manhattan. We moved to the city seeking higher education, and an alternative to frat parties and gin buckets. We prefer a bottle of Chianti to a keg, lunches at City Bakery to a dining hall, Joe's to Starbucks, Frankie's Amatriciana to Batali's. Our uniting factor is our love for food. For detailed, personal information, keep reading.
