(Patates Braves)
Monday morning I awoke, like the rest of Manhattan, to find a blizzard outside my window. The wind was howling, snow was accumulating, and the temperature was 16 degrees but felt like 2. At dinner time, the streets of NYC were empty, and so was Mercat. Upon entering I felt an immediate warmth, despite the high ceilings and almost overwhelming size of the space. The decor is sleek and clean, yet still homey thanks to exposed brick walls, low lighting, and dark wooden tables. While waiting for my friend, I ordered a glass of red wine, which was generous in both size and price ($13)...

BLT Burger manages to exclusively serve burgers, yet still feel like a legitimate restaurant. A large wooden bar greets you upon entering with a variety of options. Cocktails are on the weaker side, but as this is a burger joint, you should probably get beer anyway. (Unless you’re feeling ill in which case they will gladly make you a hot toddy.) Glorified framed paintings of cows hang somewhat hauntingly on the walls. The fries are great, so we recommend dishing out a few more bucks for a

Amazing spot for breakfast, lunch, coffee, and cookies. Extensive sandwich options include more eclectic choices like the Sliced Granny Smith Apple sandwich with turkey, brie and raspberry mustard in addition to more standard fare like Tuna Melts and PB&Js. Country style salad with a scoop of chicken, tuna, or tofu is a tasty option. Cappuccinos are made correctly here, and the regular coffee is always fresh. Pick up your fork and napkin yourself and listen for your name to be called over the inevitable crowd.

Since it’s basically an alternative to NYU dinning halls, prepared sandwiches like peanut butter and banana, mozzarella and vine ripened tomato, and Black Forest ham with farmhouse cheddar go pretty quickly. Salads are made fresh to order and daily soup selections are posted on the chalkboard. Baked goods, ice cream, and wine are also available. The iced coffee at Think is cold brewed which eliminates the bitter taste and enhances natural flavors. Lines at Think Coffee are long, seating is scarce, and Macs are everywhere.

About Us
We are young (early 20's) and hungry (for knowledge! music! art! food!) friends living on (or in areas which border) Manhattan. We moved to the city seeking higher education, and an alternative to frat parties and gin buckets. We prefer a bottle of Chianti to a keg, lunches at City Bakery to a dining hall, Joe's to Starbucks, Frankie's Amatriciana to Batali's. Our uniting factor is our love for food. For detailed, personal information, keep reading.
