About Us

We are young (early 20's) and hungry (for knowledge! music! art! food!) friends living on (or in areas which border) Manhattan. We moved to the city seeking higher education, and an alternative to frat parties and gin buckets. We prefer a bottle of Chianti to a keg, lunches at City Bakery to a dining hall, Joe's to Starbucks, Frankie's Amatriciana to Batali's. Our uniting factor is our love for food. For detailed, personal information, keep reading.

Jena

Jena grew up with a health-obsessed mother who shopped exclusively at Whole Foods. By age four, Jena was convinced that McDonalds directly causes Cancer, in addition to Lucky Charms, Dunkeroos, and Fruit by the Foot. Much of the neurosis rubbed off; as an adult, she prefers to eat organic and natural foods. She makes a mean banana bread. Jena, who works as a freelance food writer, is the primary writer for The Young and Hungry.

Seth

Seth is the luckiest person we know. Though Paris Hilton may have called him a "sexy whore" and Page Six referred to him as their favorite "indie crooner," among close friends Seth is most renowned for his special rosemary chicken. Seth started recording albums when he was 16 and now manages two bands, Jukebox the Ghost and Princeton. He can usually be seen hovering over his Blackberry. This used to bother us until he started managing The Young and Hungry and then we let him be.

Madeline

Spawn of a screenwriter and ballerina, Madeline is one of those really skinny people who eats a ton and inspires rabid jealousy.  She makes a famous orzo and cheese and travels with an apron. Madeline works at the contemporary art gallery Hauser & Wirth. On weekends, Madeline can be found at MoMA or the Chelsea galleries, writing reviews for YAH's art blog. When she's not with the rest of us she's with her "art friends"...whatever.

Frankie

Frankie is the host of the popular internet cooking show, Frankie Cooks and You Can Too!  He can be counted on for asking every waiter or waitress (and the occasional stranger), "Are you Italian?" Frankie smuggles proscuitto from Italy into his loft in Soho where he slices the illegal goods on his shiny silver meat slicer. In addition to cooking and coveting all things Italian, Frankie endorses Nikon and Apple.

Rachel

Advertising planner by day, obsessive foodie by night, Rachel's most beloved purchase is a white Le Creuset, in which she experiments with a repertoire of stews.

Contributors

After a vigorous screening process in which applicants are evaluated on their writing abilities, physical attractiveness and NYC "connections," a few made it through the steel doors of YAH's invisible HR department.
