treasure hunt! your guide to the 2010 armory show
PICKS
March 4, 2010
At the Armory, one should neither idle nor arrive underdressed. I can't help you with your wardrobe (the winter-to-spring shift is so awkward), but this image treasure hunt should get you out of there before you've realized that the art market has no mercy and that art can't love you back.
P.S. Apologies for ignoring Pier 92!
Your map.
The listings that follow go North to South, West to East.

Pipilotti Rist’s glowing light box (it's a film still!)
at Hauser & Wirth

Raquib Shaw at White Cube
(Ignore everything else... especially the overrated Hirst that went for 4.6mil)

DIY: How to become an art collector.
February 25, 2010

Ever walked into an art gallery and seen something you liked, something you thought would look just great hanging over your couch, but unfortunately you lacked the cash and cachet to start signing checks like Steven Cohen?
Well, say hello to my latest obsession, 20 x 200.com.

Celeste Boursier-Mougenot at Paula Cooper
Thursday, 6-8pm
Bill Jensen : New Work
There's something rugged about a painter who mixes his own paints and uses his own self-made tools, which might account for the intensity of his nature-scapes.
Cheim & Read, 547 West 25th Street between 10th and 11th avenues.
Friday, 6-8pm
Celeste Boursier-Mougenot
Vaccuum cleaners playing the harmonica. Not my two favorite sounds, but let's hope they bring out the best in one another.
Paula Cooper Gallery, 465 W 23rd Street between 9th and 10th avenues.
The Technology Show
This self-described "show about glitches" makes technological annoyances look good. Amen.
Gallatin Galleries, 715 Broadway at Washington Place

In defiance of weather conditions, this week's openings are HOT. Steamy, even.

Catch it before it's gone! California Minimalism at Zwirner (... & Art Picks!)
February 4, 2010

Doug Wheeler's California Minimalism
The show Primary Atmospheres: Works from California 1960-1970 at David Zwirner is worth a look before it closes this Saturday, February 6th.
Differing from New York minimalism in its emphasis on perceptual experience, the work of West Coast minimalists is often characterized by gleaming, candy-colored surfaces (the so-called “finish fetish” aesthetic), or plays upon light and space. This makes for a show that is not only fun to look at, but also required reading for anyone interested in contemporary art --particularly the flashier kind.

About Us
We are young (early 20's) and hungry (for knowledge! music! art! food!) friends living on (or in areas which border) Manhattan. We moved to the city seeking higher education, and an alternative to frat parties and gin buckets. We prefer a bottle of Chianti to a keg, lunches at City Bakery to a dining hall, Joe's to Starbucks, Frankie's Amatriciana to Batali's. Our uniting factor is our love for food. For detailed, personal information, keep reading.
