CUISINE: Barbeque
NEIGHBORHOOD: Williamsburg

I thought I'd mark my YAH revival (it's been 34 days since my last confession) with something saucy.  There's an endless supply of fantastic BBQ in this city – from Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem to Bar Q in the West Village— but none has received as much acclaim as Williamsburg's Fette Sau. CONT'D

Located in a former auto-body repair shop, eating at Fette Sau is a bit of an operation.  First you have to wait in line and order your food – meat and sides, by the pound – and then hope to find a space in the indoor or outdoor dining areas, which are packed with cafeteria-style picnic tables. The most strategic way to approach the evening is in group form, so that half of the diners can find a table while the others get the goods. We managed to score a table right away, and while a few of us saved the space, I loaded our stainless steal tray with barbecue brisket, pulled pork, sausage, cole slaw, baked beans, and potato salad. This all comes with complimentary mini-brioche buns: soft, sweet, and perfect for soaking up all the excess meat and barbecue sauce.

On to the food.  The brisket was moist and juicy, with a charred crust. Be sure to fix yourself a mini pulled pork sandwich with a healthy squirt of BBQ sauce. And those beans... wow. I'd recommend skipping the potato salad in favor of more baked beans, which are packed with flavor thanks to the meat (and fat) they're cooked with. The cole slaw also ranked highly in my book.  While it might not be the most comfortable place to sit and linger, (we finished eating in 15 minutes and were lucky to find a table in under 30), Fette Sau is a must for meat and bean eaters.
