Around the corner from where I work (and a ten minute walk from Shake Shack) is brgr. While I would normally prefer a superior burger in exchange for a slight commute, I don't have much time to spare for lunch — they're working me hard at Morpheus— and the non-stop raining puts a literal damper on things. Immediacy is key.
Let me preface this review by saying that I'm not usually a burger-for-lunch person; I don't like to feel weighed down midday. But one day last week, feeling a little hungover and unusually hungry, I was craving a sloppy, delicious, burger. So I decided to try brgr (pronounced burger). CONT'D
Though the burgers are made from grass-fed beef — "because it tastes better" — I found them to taste worse. Worse than what? Well, Shake Shack, for starters, but also many of the higher-end burgers I've had recently like Five Guys, Pop Burger, or Bill's. I ordered the Beautiful Day Burger (beef, American cheese, grilled onions, pickles) at the front of the restaurant, then watched as two employees, dripping with sweat, reached into torn bags of whole wheat Pepperidge Farm buns to assemble my lunch. Unappetizing, to say the least.
Back at my desk, I bit into my burger, and was instantly pissed off. The meat was thin and burnt, the pickles tasted like olives. Pepperidge Farm should stick to Milanos.

About Us
We are young (early 20's) and hungry (for knowledge! music! art! food!) friends living on (or in areas which border) Manhattan. We moved to the city seeking higher education, and an alternative to frat parties and gin buckets. We prefer a bottle of Chianti to a keg, lunches at City Bakery to a dining hall, Joe's to Starbucks, Frankie's Amatriciana to Batali's. Our uniting factor is our love for food. For detailed, personal information, keep reading.
