From the boys who brought you Frankies Spuntino, Prime Meats  is equal parts bar, restaurant, and butcher.  The space is decorated almost identically to its older siblings, with rich woods, exposed brick walls and antique light fixtures. The owners' goal was to create a space reminiscent of the days before the industrial revolution. To their credit, there are a few things about the restaurant that seem particularly old school: You order your ribeye by the ounce, the private dining room is a converted horse stable, and the prohibition-era inspired cocktail menu includes an Old-Fashioned with housemade bartlett per bitters. CONT'D

A backyard dining space, shared with Frankies 457, is a welcoming respite from the noise of Court Street, and anything else for that matter. The narrow menu is focused on salads, farmstead cheeses, and meats. A German influence is obvious; the Weisswurst, a traditional German sausage, is served with sweet mustard and a pretzel roll. Do not overlook the homemade pretzels; the piping hot, perfectly salted bread can be ordered solo as a $3 side. As for the other accompaniments, the fingerling potatoes were undercooked and the sauteed spinach was under-seasoned. Our Strip Steak was a tad too rare, but the buttery, bloody meat was delicious regardless. The steak, coupled with the amiable atmosphere, made our dinner a success. I left the restaurant feeling full and content, but wondering: Did they charge $2 for bread and butter back in the day, too?
