Pearl Oyster Bar may be the perfect place to toast the waning days of summer. The restaurant understands that simple is best, for their appetizing fare is served in one of the least pretentious atmospheres I’ve encountered in an upscale restaurant; the vibe is laid back, the waiters are in T-shirts, and it feels like a vacation, but without the sunburn and tourists...
It is necessary to note that Pearl is not the place for someone on a budget, but the merit of the food alone does, most emphatically, earn the “worth it” YAH seal of approval. If I could give it a second thumbs up I would. Every single dish I tried unfailingly astonished me because it was just so good. The fried oysters, an appetizer, are a mixture of tang, cream and crunch. The lobster roll, accompanied by a pile of shoestring fries, is the kind of dish that you eat with your fingers out of impatience. And just about anything would taste delicious when dunked into melted butter — Pearl’s 1 ½ pound Maine lobster, served grilled or boiled and with a ramekin of corn pudding, is no exception. A word to the wise: even if you are stuffed to the gills, order the Butterscotch Praline Parfait, for I could bestow no higher praise upon a Sundae. The oyster bar doesn’t take reservations, but like all good things in life, is worth the wait.
