After spending many months walking by Casa’s large open windows, peering inside at the white placemats and simple Brazilian décor, someone invited me to eat there.  Not that one needs an invitation; the friendly wait staff and general coziness ensure all of the accoutrements of a home-cooked meal.  Sure enough, shortly after being sat, a nearby diner said that the food tasted just like her own Brazilian mother’s cooking — and the food is both delicious and exciting...

The flavor of the cashew juice will surprise you; what starts with a citrusy bite soon turns to the whole, warm flavor of the nut.  The restaurant’s affordable eight-dollar cocktail menu is worth noting as well.  The CusCuz Paulista (a Sao Paolo shrimp cake), consisting of corn flour, hearts of palms, tomatoes, and green olives, is both wet and dry and the portion is large enough to be a small entrée.  But the real star of the evening is the Feijoada, Brazil’s national dish. The server took the time to explain how to eat the daunting amount of food: one should scoop the black bean and prime-meat stew on top of rice, mix in the sides of collard greens and tomatoes, sprinkle some farofa (toasted manioc flour) and bacon pieces on top, and then cleanse your palette afterwards with an orange slice.  The only question is if you will have room for dessert…
