Food generally isn’t the first thing the U.K. is praised for, but for those that appreciate pub grub and high tea, British import shop, Myers of Keswick, brings a bit of the English stateside. Though famous for their homemade Cumberland sausages—they boast a recipe unchanged for over a century and the only claim to authenticity within the U.S.—the truly delightful aspect of the store is perusing through the colorful and unusual products that line the shelves...

 

 It's true that you might question the contents of some goods (“sandwich spread,” and mysterious jars of “gentleman’s relish,”), but perusing their extensive tea collection, cocktail mixers and English chocolate is a novelty indeed. The range of products is impressive, from dish soaps to breakfast cereals.  But the shop doesn’t just feature dry goods; a tantalizing selection of savory pies is displayed in the glass counter.  The Cornish Pasty (potato and beef baked in a pie crust) is particularly delicious, but the selection ranges from steak and kidney to shepherds.  One daunting item is the traditional Scotch egg: hard-boiled, and wrapped in a meat mixture, then breaded and deep-fried. This little West Village is not your average Gristedes, and we recommend it to those who are looking to add some excitement to their grocery list.
