Meet the Brooklyn Salsa Company
June 26, 2009

Introducing salsa with an attitude, a passion... and a myspace page. With a variety for each of New York's five boroughs, the salsa caters itself to your taste buds, personality, and location. Manhattan is Mild, Brookyln is Hot, Staten Island is Green, the Bronx is the Brunt, and Queens is the Tropical. The team describes themselves as a "new generation of organic salsa makers living in the heat of Brooklyn," with a goal "to bring you the flavor and life of New York City with simple, explosive ingredients." The salsa radiates with personality; their myspace page features a neon green background and music by RATATAT.
The team behind Brooklyn Salsa Company is made up of some unlikely characters. Rob Bowman plays in the electronic, synth band, The Blue and Red 3D Spectacular, and also holds a masters degree in business. Matt Burns is a professionally trained actor (you might have seen him in Gossip Girl), but is known among friends for his talents as a vegan chef. The group's third member, Jake O'Connor, is also a professional actor (and also appeared in Gossip Girl).
As Rob, co-founder of BK Salsa, explained to me, BK salsa is about two things: working for non-profits and rock shows. The boys bring their homemade, home-packed salsas to concerts in and around the city, where fans can't seem to get enough of the addictive varieties. Proceeds from salsa events benefit non-profit organizations.
Of course, nothing this good stays this small forever. The group is in the midst of finalizing a contract with a health-conscious grocery store, and the packaging will be outsourced to a company in upstate New York. In the meantime, order yourself some salsa here.

Damn Good Salsa! Can't wait until it hits the stores!
In spite of the weather, they've brought New York together. Grab your favourite tortilla chips and head for the roof: Saturdays = BK Salsa night.

About Us
We are young (early 20's) and hungry (for knowledge! music! art! food!) friends living on (or in areas which border) Manhattan. We moved to the city seeking higher education, and an alternative to frat parties and gin buckets. We prefer a bottle of Chianti to a keg, lunches at City Bakery to a dining hall, Joe's to Starbucks, Frankie's Amatriciana to Batali's. Our uniting factor is our love for food. For detailed, personal information, keep reading.

This stuff sounds great, but would like to see the texture of the dip. I wonder what store they are in talks with. My bet would be whole foods.
