Interview with Passion Pit
INTERVIEW
June 23, 2009

Like MGMT before them, Passion Pit mixes dance floor beats with pop-synth science. They also throw in some emotional, love-struck lyrics for good measure. Hailing from Boston, Passion Pit is led by singer-songwriter Michael Angelakos with live band consisting of Ian Hultquist (synths), Ayad Al Adham (synths, samplers), Jeff Apruzzese (bass, synths), and Nate Donmoyer (drums). The band's debut, Chunk of Change EP, was recorded as a Valentines Day present for Angelakos' girlfriend, but got attention from more than just the lucky lady. The band released their full length album, Manners, in May of 2009. Mixing falsetto vocals and synth pop, the squealing melodies make you want to dance. Curious what they like to eat? Passion Pit's Ayad answers some questions for us.
Your new album is called Manners. Who has the best table manners in the band? ...the worst?
We all have our moments of great table manners, and terrible table manners. It depends who is around at the time. I'm pretty bad and messy when its just us guys, but Jeff knows how to burp in front of the wrong people... ha!
What's your favorite American rest stop?
Hmmm they all really blend together. I remember there was this awesome rest stop in Texas where I bought a black ashtray with a dragon wielding a sword. But that was the only cool thing in there. The south does have a lot of ninja star and samurai blades, I wonder who buys them all...
What's on your rider? Is there anything you can't live without while on the road?
Snacky foods (hummus, bread, veggies/fruits), red bulls and juice, alcohol (vodka, wine and beer as we all have varied tastes). Red Bulls help us on long days. I personally couldn't live without an army of undershirts.
Passion Pit is from Boston. Is there anything unique about Bostonian cuisine that most people wouldn't know about?
Not really. Well we all moved here just for college so we might not be educated to the unique things. But clam chowder is good here.
Who are some of your favorite Boston bands?
You can be a Wesley, Magic Magic, Dirty Dishes, Stephen Konrads, Pretty and Nice.
What are some of your favorite places to eat in NYC?
Calexico burrito stand. Best burrito ever.
What do you usually order at a Chinese restaurant?
Beef and Mushrooms with noodles or something like that.
Favorite childhood bubblegum?
Hubba Bubba Cola flavored.
Favorite fruit with a pit?
Green gage plum. It small green and crunchy, and is great with a sprinkle of salt.
Sugary cereals or the grown up kinds that prevent heart disease?
Mood based entirely. I love Lucky Charms, but I have to eat the wheat bits first and then the marshmallows in order of my color preference.

About Us
We are young (early 20's) and hungry (for knowledge! music! art! food!) friends living on (or in areas which border) Manhattan. We moved to the city seeking higher education, and an alternative to frat parties and gin buckets. We prefer a bottle of Chianti to a keg, lunches at City Bakery to a dining hall, Joe's to Starbucks, Frankie's Amatriciana to Batali's. Our uniting factor is our love for food. For detailed, personal information, keep reading.
