This morning, during a leisurely stroll through Nolita, I encountered a sign that read: "Have you had your Pinches today?" Indeed, I had not. I decided it was time to give Pinches another shot at the behest of our dear Young and Hungry friends, Sean and Parker, who so adamantly opposed our "Not Worth It" rating of the Lafayette Street Location. And so, I ordered one fish taco.
The fish was cooked to perfection. Warm and flakey, it melted in my mouth-- buttery, to be sure, but not too greasy. It is a shame that such a delicacy is topped with flavorless cabbage that provides nothing more than crunch, and store-bought guacamole. I am sorry, but there was something other than avocado in that guac... a certain something that preserves the quickly-ripened avocado, if you catch my drift. As far as I am concerned, unless guacamole is fresh it is simply NOT WORTH IT.
All this being said, the single taco provided a nice boost and was the perfect size for my walk, when I wanted just a little something. Unfortunately, YAH does not have the web-infrastructure to give an individual menu item a "Worth It," so I cannot overturn our original rating. I do promise to return to the Nolita restaurant to reevaluate the entire menu, including margaritas, with my YAH partners.
The upside of this whole experience is that it has inspired a summer-long quest for the best fish taco in NYC. Await the results, my young and hungry friends...

About Us
We are young (early 20's) and hungry (for knowledge! music! art! food!) friends living on (or in areas which border) Manhattan. We moved to the city seeking higher education, and an alternative to frat parties and gin buckets. We prefer a bottle of Chianti to a keg, lunches at City Bakery to a dining hall, Joe's to Starbucks, Frankie's Amatriciana to Batali's. Our uniting factor is our love for food. For detailed, personal information, keep reading.

The reviewer obviously have a problem that goes far beyond the topic of tacos. Perhaps a bad trip to Mexico as a child, a fear of sombreros, or a distaste for revolutionary war hero, the Marquis de Lafayette. I don't know about you but when I hear the words Lafayette and Mexican I think of the magical food that is taco and the magical place that is Pinche, or as I call it, The Fish Taco Place. OK...the cabbage issue. The cabbage is there to balance the potential heaviness of the fried fish, and add a fresh crunch and tang to the flaky white fish and always fresh guacamole. It also provides a wonderful visual contrast to the deep rich green of the guacamole. How about that chopped cilantro garnish !? A killer finish. In a city with so many crappy and overpriced food establishments, why pick on The Fish Taco Place...? Pick on, say, Benny's Burritos, whose burritos have consistently gone down hill in quality and up in price year after year. Did I mention the rice at Pinche is practically crack ! Viva La Taco, Viva Le Pinche
