Just because Cafe 2 is the most reasonably priced of MoMA's restaurants, does not mean it's mediocre by any means. Run by Danny Meyer's hospitality group, the cafe is a cross between an old italian meat shop, with cured meats and cheeses decorating the back wall, and a super-chic version of your elementary school cafeteria...
With fresh, healthy and time-efficient options, this may be the most considerate museum cafe-- an excellent place to dine in itself, that also aids the museum-going experience. I suggest the roasted beets from the antipasti menu, and the Olive Oil Cured Tuna Tramezzini which will give your mom's tuna sandwich a run for its money. For those who simply can't decide (the menu is somewhat large), the bruschette allow you to pick three out of seven interesting options. My personal favorite is the prosciutto with walnut and lemon chickpea puree. There are two chilled water stations where you can rehydrate and the coffee is a must-have before you continue on your museum trip. A great place to people watch (MoMA offers a fascinating blend of tourists and well-dressed art amateurs), but don't forget to go see the art!
